Perched 3,000 feet above The Broadmoor is their dreamy Cloud Camp outpost, where a visit is worth every moment of the nerve-wracking drive up on skinny switchbacks.
From the top of Cheyenne Mountain, you have stunning views of Pikes Peak, Colorado’s Front Range, and sprawling Colorado Springs below. There are 11 cabins to choose from, which are all just a short walk from the Main Lodge. However, you can also stay in the lodge where there are 7 guest rooms.
Our cozy cabin, named Tenney Craig, was beautiful decorated with a wilderness flare, had stunning views of the snow covered mountains and sky high pines. Each morning, we awoke to tiny rays of sunshine peaking through our curtains and after sipping coffee in bed, we made the 2-minute walk to the lodge for a hot breakfast. Our days started slowly and crept by at a perfectly relaxed speed, a welcome break from the chaos of city life back home.
At Cloud Camp, everything is included in your stay, from insanely decadent meals and drinks, to transportation and a myriad of activities like mules rides, archery, and guided hikes. We visited at the end of the season in late October (Cloud Camp is open May 1- the end of October) so some of the activities weren’t available because of weather. Just prior to our arrival, a snow storm had coated the camp in a glittery white blanket but we didn’t mind a bit.
While it was too slippery on the switchbacks for a mule ride, the staff were kind enough to take us down to the barn to meet these gentle giants. Sweet Nora sniffed us and let us pet her nose! This was our first interaction with these working animals and we instantly fell in love.
A snowy hike is best enjoyed when you know you’ll be rewarded afterwards with a dip in the hot tub. Since Cloud Camp is pretty remote, while we soaked, the only sounds we heard were icicles falling and the occasional bird chirping. It was the definition of relaxing.
One of the most unique aspects of Cloud Camp is the meals. While breakfast and lunch are served casually, buffet style at at your own leisure during the serving time frame, dinner is a show! The evening meal is served at a huge table arranged in the middle of the great room. The long table seats more than 30 and guests are asked to not skip any seats; instead you sit beside strangers and enjoy dinner together, leaving the meal as new friends. Chef creates a new menu each week and the meal is served in 4 courses, with a fun additional family-style platter added in by the chef each night. The food was incredible and certainly one of the things we’ll remember most.
The staff at Cloud Camp truly went above and beyond for every single guest, ensuring it was a trip of a lifetime. Wether you’re craving a romantic weekend away or a planning a family reunion, Cloud Camp will no doubt be exactly what you’re looking for.
