What would you say if we told you a little slice of heaven lies just 1 hour north of NYC?
Tucked along a quiet street, amid the bucolic horse farms of Bedford, New York, the Bedford Post Inn is an idyllic upscale retreat for anyone looking for total relaxation. The Relais & Chateaux property is owned by Richard Gere, along with fellow neighborhood friends, and has two restaurants owned and run by award-winning chef Michael White and the NYC-based Altamarea group. Pretty impressive for an 8-room country inn!
Each guest room at the Bedford Post Inn is a sanctuary unto itself. Rustic and luxurious, the rooms are framed by simple white walls and exposed wood beams that are original to the historic building. Crisp white Frette linens adorn the beds and decadent claw-foot soaking tubs serves as the focal point of the spacious, marble bathrooms. Some of the rooms have balconies lined by flower boxes, perfect for sipping coffee and reading the paper in the morning. In the evening, curl up with a velvety glass of Barbaresco by your private in-room fireplace.
To let the relaxation continue, the Bedford Post Inn has an incredible yoga loft and offers multiple classes a day. Both locals and hotel guests are able to join in on the range of classes offered by top-notch instructors.
Both restaurants on property, owned by Chef Michael White and the Alta Marea Group, are insanely good. Breakfast and lunch are served in The Barn, the hotel’s casual eatery with indoor and outdoor seating areas. Whether you’re stopping by for coffee and baked eggs or their delicious turkey club, it’s a great spot to enjoy a meal.
The gem of the inn, Campagna, is an upscale dinner restaurant and a destination unto itself. With an impressive wine list and fresh, local ingredient, the restaurants serves amazing rustic Italian fare. We love their home-made pastas, particularly the Fusilli and the Lasagna Verde with ultra-thin layers filled with a béchamel and bolognese. Coated in a truffle crust, the filet of beef melts in your mouth and is cooked tenderly to perfection. Campagna is one of the best restaurants on the East Coast and well-worth it’s own review, so you can find our full write-up: here!
The dessert list at the restaurant is not to be missed, but afterward, continue with the sweet treats outside with s’mores on the back patio. The staff at the inn will put together a whole tray of chocolate, graham crackers, marshmallows and supplies, so all you have to do is cozy up with a wool blanket by the fire place and roast your marshmallow to the desired perfection.
Originally built in the 1700’s, the property has been beautifully restored with every detail considered. For a weekend of luxurious relaxation, we can’t think of a better place to visit than the Bedford Post Inn.
