If you haven’t been introduced to the Connecticut coast, please allow us the honor! In less than an hour from NYC, by train or car, you can find yourself in the charming coastal town of Southport, CT. The historic town has it all, with tree-lined streets, great boutique shopping, and a lovely beachfront. For an picturesque, New England-style getaway, you won’t find a better place to stay than the Delamar Southport.
Pulling in to the upscale boutique hotel, you’re immediately taken by the relaxed charm of the place. Beautiful buildings with white wood paneling and black shutters weave through the property. Inside, a rustic and elegant style is playfully brought to life with fun and eclectic artwork. The owner’s passion and appreciation for fine art really shows through and brings wonderful character to the hotel.
Immediately upon arrival, you’re offered a glass of champagne to enjoy while the luggage is delivered to your room. The exemplary service and pampering doesn’t end at check-in; it remains to be a signature attribute of the hotel throughout your entire stay. Before heading to your room, we recommend securing a reservation, if you haven’t already, for dinner at the hotel’s acclaimed restaurant – Artisan. The concierge can also help you arrange your days’ activities in the area, including a car service around town or to the private-access beach close by.
One of the most welcomed features of the hotel are the spacious guest rooms. In a refreshing contrast to hotels in NYC or out in the Hamptons, the rooms and suites here have ample space to spread out and unwind. With cloud-like beds and fine Italian linens, you’re promised a dream-filled slumber each night.
Like all the Delamar properties, they don’t slack on the ammenities. Well-appointed bathrooms feature Bulgari products and the most comfortable bathrobes we’ve come across in awhile.
While you’re here, take advantage of the hotel’s prime location and chauffeur services to visit the shops in town, the beach, local golf courses, or nearby towns like Stanford and Greenwich. The Delamar has connections with many of Southport’s main attractions, which makes getting around and experiencing the area that much more easy. After a day of exploring, head to the best restaurant in town, Artisan, conveniently located back at your hotel.
Artisan is a destination in and of itself. The farm-to-table creation of renowned Chef Frederic Kieffer has been attracting foodies from all over the region. Check our our full review of the Artisan experience – here. Start with drinks outside on the sprawling patio area, cozied up in one of the couches. For dinner, choose to stay outside to dine under the twinkling lights of the pergola or head inside to the elegant dining room with rustic decor.
Their seasonal menu offers New England-inspired fare, like Crab Cakes with Avocado & Coriander Chutney and Lemon Lobster Risotto. We drooled over the Vermont Citizen Cider Brazed Pork Cheeks with Ricotta Gnocchi, as well as the Prime Angus Hanger Steak entrees. And – it would be a sin not to mention the french fries. Thin, flavorful and extra crispy – they had us fighting over the last straggler piece.
The Delamar Southport is a wonderful retreat for anyone who appreciates a boutique experience, delicious farm-to-table food, and concierge team that will make anything happen for you.
The close proximity to New York City makes a day trip or weekend getaway equally possible for Manhattanites. Now that we’ve found out about the Delamar Southport, the usual weekend destinations, like the Hamptons or Montauk, seem so crowded and so far away!
