We love a vineyard stay, perhaps even more than hotel stay. They tend to be more cozy, quaint, and so well curated – and you’re surrounded by vines and wines! So when we were planning a trip to Willamette Valley, we did our research and found the perfect place to stay and experience Oregon’s famed wine country: Durant at Red Ridge Farms.
Durant is equal parts winery and olive mill and this duality creates a unique experience and gives you an eve greater appreciation for the land around you. Visitors can come and experience both a wine tasting and an olive oil tasting, but you can also stay on property at one of two spacious vineyard accommodations: Stoneycrest Cottage or the Garden Suite.
We stayed in Stoneycrest Cottage – a spacious two-bedroom house privately tucked into the hillside with spectacular views of Williamette Valley. We loved starting each day on the back veranda sipping coffee, watching the sun rise above the dewy vineyard vines; and ending each day with a Durant pinot in hand watching the sunset from the Adirondack chairs at the cottage’s private fire pit.
Stoneycrest Cottage is a fully outfitted home with kitchen, living room, two bedrooms (King + Queen), two bathrooms, and gorgeous back veranda. It’s an ideal place to stay for a family or with friends.
The Garden Suite at Durant is also extremely spacious – it’s a fully-furnished one-bedroom suite with a kitchen and living room located just above the Red Ridge Farm Gift Shop. This means you just have to pop down stairs if you need some goodies – like another bottle of wine, pastries, or chocolates From it’s second story location, the suite boasts beautiful views of the vineyard and Mt. Hood in the distance.
Durants prime location, in the hills between McMinnville and Newberg, make it a lovely home base for exploring Willamette. There are so many great wine tastings and restaurants to check out nearby, and the Durant property itself offers a lot to experience – so save a full day just for that! We highly suggest their Estate Educational Experience, because it includes tasting both their award-winning olive oils and the Durant Estate wines. You begin by touring the olive grove and milling room, and then you make your way to the tasting room for an olive oil, food, and wine tasting. Afterwards, you can work off some of that wine with a hike along the trails at Durant. Follow the pathways to walk among the vines, admire the gardens, smell the sweet lavender, and ogle at the cute farm goats on property.
Finally, we’re certain you’ll both begin and end your stay with a visit to the Red Ridge Farm Shop. Hopefully you’ll have brought an extra suitcase to take home your favorite olive oils and wines – but that space will also come in handy for the other goodies and gifts that you’ll find. From soaps and spa lotions to home goods and culinary items, you’ll leave with a bounty of Durant treasures.
Compass + Twine was a welcomed guest of Durant and thanks them for an incredible experience. As always, all opinions are our own.
