The Texas Hill Country abounds with outdoor adventure opportunities all year round. One of our favorite things to do in this beautiful region of the state is hike Enchanted Rock. Designated as a State Natural Area, this pink granite mountain has mystical aura about it that has attracted admirers for thousands of years.
There are 11 miles of trails in the area, but don’t miss the Summit Trail! It’s a decently challenging 0.8 miles up to the top off the rock. It starts getting steep on the last stretch, but there’s a very obvious stopping point by some boulders that offer breathtaking panoramic views of the Hill Country all around. If you’re hesitant to proceed – or have a baby on board like us – just stop here and enjoy the scenery!
Currently, reservations are required, as park entry is limited. In the time of Covid, where outdoor activities are preferred, you’ll need to reserve your entry slot in advance – especially for a weekend visit. Try and get there early to beat the crowds – and the heat! It’s $8 for a daypass per car.
Enchanted Rock is about 1.5hrs west of Austin, or about 25 minutes north of Fredericksburg.
