Set in the heart of downtown Minneapolis, MN, the Hotel Ivy should be at the top of your list when planning a visit to the Twin Cities.
The 136-room hotel is large in size, but a meticulous attention to detail makes it feel more like a boutique experience. As part of the Luxury Collection brand, the property includes nearly 2 dozen luxury suites, a fitness club and one of the best spas in Minneapolis. Rooms are bright and spacious with comfy beds, a sitting area and a large desk space. The limestone, spa-like bathrooms are well appointed with both a glass shower and deep soaking tub.
Perhaps our favorite part – for a small pet fee, Hotel Ivy allows you to bring along your four-legged friends. For dog lovers like us, this is always exciting and very much appreciated.
Downstairs, the spacious lobby is a focal point of the hotel with it’s sleek and modern design. With it’s minimalistic decor, hang out for an evening cocktail at Venetia, the hotel’s beautifully stocked lobby bar. Enjoy coffee and fresh juice there in the mornings while the Ivy Concierge provides ample tips for a day exploring the city.
Monello is one of the best hotel restaurants we’ve been to in a long time, specializing in coastal Italian cuisine. The welcoming space has a rustic yet elegant charm about it. Striped linens and simple place settings lie atop the tables, while tiny topiaries and bowls of citrus line the walls. The food here centers around fresh seasonal ingredients, and while everything we had was delicious, we highly recommend the Gemelli with Blue Crab.
The historic Ivy Tower still remains part of the hotel from the original early 1900’s construction. In 1986, it was added to the National Register of Historic Places and today the tower is part of the hotels 2,500 square foot penthouse suit. It now houses a gorgeous light installation and serves a prominent feature of the penthouse balcony.
Built in the footprint of a church, the hotels subterranean bar is aptly named Constantine. Walking in, you’ll think perhaps you’ve entered a vampire’s lair; dozens of candles line the dimly lit space, red velvet curtains hang in doorways, and shells of old knight’s armor stand at attention. The speakeasy exudes a cool vibe and provides a fun contrast to the modernity found upstairs. Order a ‘For Megan’ cocktail and watch the mixologists put on a show.
With an ideal location, walking distance to places like Target Field and Stone Arch Bridge, the Hotel Ivy is perfect for a visit to the Land of 10,000 Lakes.
Compass + Twine was a welcomed guest of Hotel Ivy and thanks them for a lovely stay. All opinions are our own.
