A little over 5 hours north of NYC is a place where time seems to have stopped. But amidst those relics is a town swirling with locals who relish the peacefulness and those who’ve escaped the chaos of the big city and crave the quiet of a lake side retreat. Mirror Lake Inn Resort and Spa is just that.
The stately white property sits atop a hill and beckons you in and the moment you enter, your worries melt away. Even in the summer, something about the lobby smells faintly of a fireplace that was recently lit, a cozy warmth permanently in the air, and freshly baked chocolate chip cookies tempt you at the check-in desk.
The AAA Four Diamond Inn recently underwent a $4 million renovation and many of the guest rooms and suites received facelifts. The Upstate Adirondack style is consistent throughout the property and whether you book a guest room or one of the larger, water-front suites, you are promised gorgeous views of Mirror Lake.
Spend your morning relaxing on the beach, listening to the lake quietly lick the shoreline. When you’ve woken from an easy nap, take one of the water toys (a paddle board, perhaps?) out for a spin. You’ll notice the quietness of Mirror Lake – no motorized boats are allowed, making it the perfect playground for swimmers, kayakers, and paddle boaters.
Lunch can be enjoyed lakeside at The Cottage, the Inn’s most casual eatery. Enjoy live music during the weekend happy hours back in the main building at Taste Bistro & Bar. While all the dining options are delicious, our favorite meal was at The View. Winner of Wine Spectator’s Award of Excellence 16 years in a row, the food is incredible and the wine list, exceptional. The staff are knowledgable and can assist you with the perfect pairings to make your meal a memorable one.
With both an indoor and outdoor pool, there is no shortage of swimming options and a game of lawn checkers is the perfect thing do to while you dry off . The spa offers a great variety of treatments and a state of the art gym is available for guests as well.
A weekend spent at Mirror Lake Inn will rejuvenate you, leaving you ready to attack the new week and eager to plan your next visit.
