We cannot speak more highly of the Rosewood San Miguel de Allende. It’s such a magical place! First of all, San Miguel and the Rosewood combine to form one of our favorite hotel + city pairings of all time. One moment you’re exploring the vibrant cobblestone city streets – and the next – you’re relaxing amid the sprawling flower-filled sanctuary of the Rosewood hotel. It’s truly the most lovely and luxurious place to stay for a visit to San Miguel de Allende.
To get there – we flew on an easy direct flight from Houston (IAH) to Guanajuato International Airport (BJX). The flight as 1.5 hours; the drive from the airport to the city was also 1.5 hours. First impressions are everything, and the first impression at the Rosewood San Miguel certainly does not disappoint. From the moment your car pulls up under the hotel’s grand port-a-cochere, you know you’ve arrived somewhere special.
Friendly bellman open your door and whisk away your luggage. You’re ushered into the palatial estate and greeted with a chilled towels and fresh welcome cocktails by your personal butler. Inside you’ll find the most jaw-dropping courtyard filled with flowers, cafe tables, and palm trees. Following your butler down the stone corridors to your room, you will surely pass numerous friendly hotel staff, all waving and welcoming you to the property.
Our 3 year old son, Jack, perhaps had the best welcome of all. When we arrived to our one-bedroom suite he found balloons and an entire cooking decorating spread waiting for him, complete with a chef’s hat and apron. He was literally jumping up and down, and we were plotting how to steal a cookie from him.
The Spanish colonial style of rooms are defined by beautiful hand carved dark wood features, grand arched windows, and art from local artisans. Our favorite amenities were the huge soaking tub and palatial outdoor patio space. We spent a lot of time of the patio, relaxing on the beautiful lounge seating and staring out to acres of impeccably maintained flowers and foliage.
Between the vibrant tangerine walls of the resort and brilliant flowers blanketing the grounds, the Rosewood San Miguel beams with color and charm. We loved just strolling around the property soaking up the serene scene and always found ourselves meandering over the sprawling green lawn and pool area. In the afternoons, our kids would run and play on the lawn and then we’d find our spot by the pool for a refreshing swim. The pool has three different section, as well as private cabanas, so you always feel a sense of privacy in your own area – which we loved, especially with kids!
The culinary experiences at Rosewood San Miguel are among the best in a city filled with foodie destinations. Luna is the hotel’s beloved rooftop tapas bar and restaurant. It’s a destination in and of itself and should not be missed. The food, which you can watch being cooked in an open air kitchen, is an exquisite blend of Mexican meets Mediterranean – and the cocktails are amazing! Best of all – though – is the view. Stare out at the entire city of San Miguel below – with the most prime vantage point of Parroquia de San Miguel Arcángel, the city’s iconic pink-hued cathedral.
Our second favorite dining experience is the Rosewood’s famous Sunday brunch. This decadent brunch feast consists of more food than you could ever imagine spread out in stations in the hotel’s courtyards. Enjoy al pastor, birrieria, ceviche, desserts, and an entire guacamole station.. to name just a few. And for the kids – they have balloons, face painting and other fun activities. We even saw a couple dining with their bulldog, who was napping underneath the shade of his very own personally-monogramed doggie tent. I mean – the life!
A stay at the Rosewood San Miguel is worth the trip alone to San Miguel. It’s definitely a bucket-list resort and exceeds even the highest of expectations. It’s a magnificent resort in a magnificent city – a truly memorable stay.
