Our favorite restaurant on the island, Santos Fuegos was recommended to us by an island homeowner who has been going to Holbox for 20+ years. The al fresco dinner spot is beloved for its wood-fired cuisine by the sea.
The open flame grill plays a central role in the menu of Chef Rodrigo Balbiani. Order any of the delicious fish or steak entrees, but we implore you not to skip out on ordering the cauliflower. Perfectly flavored and char-grilled, it’s simply the best cauliflower we’ve ever had. Also not to be missed – the brisket flatbread and the pulpo! The drinks will menu will have you swooning just as much as the cockatil menu. Santos Fuegos serves up some fantastic artisan cocktails and has a nice wine list – including some good bottles from Mexico’s own wine region, Valle de Guadalupe.
Santos Fuegos is a popular spot because the chef is just so talented, so make sure to make a reservation in advance. This restaurant alone will have you planning a return trip to Holbox very soon!
