Just a tiny speck in the Caribbean, Scrub Island is its own private slice of paradise. While it’s only 1.5 miles from the largest of the BVI, Tortola, Scrub Island measures just 170 acres total. But, to quote Shakespeare, though it be small, it is mighty. It is truly stunning from every angle and we were delighted to experience all the island and resort had to offer.
Accommodations:
Made up of houses, condo-style hotel rooms, and a bustling marina, there are plenty of options here. We stayed in a 6-bedroom house which was wonderful as we were traveling with family. The house had a full kitchen and communal living area, each bedroom had its own ensuite bathroom, and the deck, dotted with loungers, had a lovely infinity pool overlooking the sea. The hotel rooms are right down by the marina which was always full of boats anchored to spend the night
restaurants:
On the island, there are three restaurants and each offer a different vibe. The fanciest of them is called Cardamom & Co. and offers a a delicious upscale dining experience. Nearby, overlooking the marina is Donovan’s Reef is their casual restaurant. Burgers, coconut shrimp, ribs – that type of thing – in a bustling open-air setting. On the other side of the island, at the beach is One Shoe Beach Bar.With just two tables and a couple bar stools, you can show up here with one shoe, or none. Enjoy lunch right by the pool or beachside in your lounger. It’s the most casual offering on the island and one we very much enjoyed whilst at the beach.
Other good stuff:
The pool at North Beach was really unique. Just seeing a pool set right in the sand, steps from the ocean was amazing. And, since we were traveling with our kids, ages 3.5 and 1.5, this set up was great. Our daughter, Penny (3.5), loves playing in the sand and wading in the surf, but Noah was not a fan of sand and preferred playing in the pool so this was a win-win for us.
The spa was also incredible. We felt safe enjoying a massage there and the service was wonderful, as was the setting.
We also cannot say enough good things about the staff. Everyone was so accommodating and so kind. Nelda, our on-property liaison, was available constantly to help arrange water taxis for other-island dinners, and helped up set up a boating day to explore the area. It was a wonderful experience and we cannot recommend Scrub Island enough.
