Spring has Sprung NEW

Spring has Sprung in NYC

New York City may not be the first place that comes to mind when you think of signs of spring. Perhaps Holland, with its burst of beautiful tulips, or the South with its streets lined in gorgeous, hefty blooms of hydrangea perhaps…but not a city shadowed by tall buildings and filled with busy streets.

But, to New Yorkers, this city is the best place to be when spring starts to show herself. It means that months of drab, cold, grey weather are almost over!

Spring has Sprung NEW

In early April, Central Park is awash with pinks and whites from cherry blossoms and dogwoods, and finally – FINALLY – people start to crowd the narrow sidewalks. Little yellow daffodils perk up from beneath the once frozen ground and highlight the sweeping green spaces that, come summer, will be swarmed with picnickers.

Downtown, the stoops of brownstones become speckled with flower pots, inviting passerbys to – literally- stop and smell their roses.

City intersections, with even the smallest amount of green space, are painted in shades of red, yellow, and pink as tulip bulbs, planted months ago, finally bloom, brightening even the dullest cab ride or crosswalk wait.

Restaurants lure you in with brightly colored sidewalk blooms and on your post-dinner walk, every bodega you pass is filling their for-sale vases with flowers just waiting to be wrapped up and taken home.
