We came for the beaches on Isla Holbox – and left yearning for more food!
Whether enjoying shrimp tacos for lunch with your toes in the sand or dining on a 3 course Cuban-inspired tasting menu for dinner, the restaurants on Isla Holbox certainly did not disappoint! If you are wondering where to eat on Isla Holbox, here is our list of the best restaurant in Holbox:
Santos Fuegos
Our favorite restaurant on the island, Santos Fuegos was recommended to us by a homeowner who has been coming to Holbox for 20 years. The al fresco dinner is beloved for it’s wood-fired cuisine by the sea. The open flame grill plays a central role in the menu of Chef Rodrigo Balbiani. Order any of the delicious fish or steak entrees, but we implore you to not skip out on ordering the cauliflower. Perfectly flavored and char-grilled, it’s simply the best we’ve ever had.
Raices
Another fantastic dinner spot, Raices stole our hearts with the fun cocktails and mouth-watering Aguachile. For an entree, get the whole fish for some delicously fresh fish tacos for the table!
Las Planchas
One of the most beloved lunch spots on the island, Las Planchas is that laid back island eatery you dream about. Sink into a street-side plastic chair, pour a refreshing cerveza into your Michelada glass, and chow down on some fresh ceviche and fried camarones. Heaven!
Mandarina
Located at the lovely Las Tortugas boutique hotel, Mandarina is a delicious spot for a nice dinner on the island. The menu has something for everyone, from great steaks (don’t go too late or you might miss out!) to fantastic pasta and vegan dishes.
The Beach Club at Hotel Zomay
The Beach Club at Hotel Zomay was our favorite beach bar lunch for margaritas and fish tacos. Dine with your toes in the sand or even hop in the shallow water while you wait for your food to arrive. You’ll love the chill atmosphere so much that we guarantee you’ll make your way to the wooden bar swings and enjoy one more margarita than you intended!
Ser Esencia
Perhaps the nicest boutique hotel on the island, Ser Casasandra also boasts a delicious restaurant, Ser Esencia . Enjoy a pre-dinner sunset cocktail on the hotel’s beautiful beachfront and then gather at cozy table by the courtyard pool for the chef’s menu of the day. We enjoyed a beautiful Cuban-inspired meal that was punctuated with amazing desserts!
