Every now and then, we arrive at a hotel that has been on our wish list to visit, and we’re truly blown away. Like jaw on the ground, giddy with happiness, ‘this is better than we imagined’ kinda feeling. Arriving at The Other Side gave us all those feels and then some. This place is pure magic.
Set on private, quiet stretch of beach on the island of Eleuthera, it feels as though you’re on a private island. The solar powered property is tucked very far off the main drag and most people access it by boat, coming from neighboring Harbour Island. The Other Side touts itself as a glamping property and it’s the most luxurious glamp-site we’ve ever seen.
The property is made up of tents, shacks, sheds, and huts. There are 3 communal tents – a bar tent, dining tent, and relaxing tent – and 4 beachfront king-sleeping tents. We’re talking hardwood floors, 4-poster king bed, AC, couches, so much space. Then outback, a WC, a soaking tub and gigantic shower room with his and hers sinks and a rainfall shower.
Tucked between the sleeping tents are huts which are super simply appointed with two twin beds, a toilet, shower and place to hang clothes. These would be great for families traveling with older kids so the parents could have the tent to themselves.
The shacks and sheds, while not beachfront, are located just steps from the sand, on a hill behind the tents. Smaller than the tents, they have sundecks with views of the water and property below, king-beds, bathrooms, AC, and hardwood floors.
Meals at The Other Side are just as lovely as you’d imagine. All are enjoyed in or just outside the dining tent. At breakfast and lunch there’s a menu you can choose from. Most days, visitors from Harbour Island popped over for lunch and kids were running about keeping each other entertained which was wonderful. Dinner is a set menu, chosen by the chef and usually including a salad from their salad garden. The food was fresh, exciting, and delicious and paired perfectly with whatever refreshing cocktail Theo, the bartender, was coming up with next door at the bar tent.
The best thing about this place is how carefree it is. The family who owns it live on site and their kids come and go, play with visiting children on their way home from school. The owners call you by name by the end of your stay, as do the staff. It’s a luxury property, yes, but the barefoot – and in our opinion- best kind.
What we wouldn’t give to be back in this bed with this view just out the window. As travel bloggers, there aren’t many places we venture back to -our bucket list is long- but mark my words: I will go back to The Other Side. The magic of the place just gets into your veins and already, I can feel the pull of it begging me back.
