Believe it or not, finding a nice, luxurious getaway in the Hamptons can be difficult to come by. The traffic itself, getting out to the far end of Long Island, can be a legitimate deterrent. Enter: The Quogue Club at Hallock House. Just a few years ago, local families in Quogue came together to completely renovate one of the landmarks in their neighborhood, a charming historic inn. The multi-million dollar renovation birthed both a world-class, luxury boutique inn and a private dining and sporting club for members to enjoy all year round.
The Quogue Club’s appeal begins – simply – with location. As the club is situated at the western end of the Hamptons, you have access to all the great beaches and restaurants in the area without having to drive the extra hour out to the far eastern end of the island in bumper-to-bumper, one-lane traffic. Hallelujah! Additionally, you’re in such close proximity to the North Fork that it takes just about 15-20 minutes to reach some of the area’s famed wineries. If you don’t feel like venturing more than a few blocks from the inn during your stay, then hop on one of their bikes and pedal down the beach. Spend your afternoon soaking up the sun while the Atlantic waves crash into the shore, or enjoy any of the great water activities in the area, like paddle boarding or fishing.
While location is key, the real allure of the property comes from its 5-star luxury experience. Driving up along the tranquil, tree-lined streets of Quogue, the chaos of life seems to melt away. Turning around the bend on Quoque St., you come upon the charming white façade of the New England-style inn set atop a grassy knoll. Manicured hedges perfectly frame the exterior, and cerulean-blue cushioned chairs and benches dot the enchanting front porch.
The interior of the inn boasts a refreshingly relaxed, yet sophisticated vibe. On the ground floor, you’ll find a bright and airy library room with loads of great books on art and a cozy fireplace in the center. Beyond that lies a spacious multi-purpose meeting room used for events or conferences. On the other side, you’ll come upon an inviting parlor space marked by two brilliant turquoise chairs, lemon-colored walls and a game of backgammon laid out on the leather ottoman – ready to be played.
Immediately off the parlor room sits the sun-drenched breakfast room with floor-to-ceiling windows and a plethora of pastries, quiches, fruits and coffee laid out each morning.
The guest-rooms are upstairs, each serving as their own luxurious retreat with big bright windows, plush bed linens, and 5-star amenities. The spacious marble bathroom with massive glass shower was one of our favorites parts of our king suite. The Quogue Club at Hallock House also has 2 charming cottages on the property, perfect for families or friends. Designed by Alexa Hampton, recognized as a Top 100 Designers by Architectural Digest, all of the accommodations at the inn are artfully elegant and inviting.
Since The Quogue Club is also a member’s dining club, you can bet the culinary experience here is nothing short of top notch. Chef Matt Birnstill, a Long Island Native, focuses on creating innovative, seasonal dishes with fresh ingredients sourced from many of the great farms in the area. It was the first week of crab season during our stay, so we had to order his new soft shell crab dish that was just added to the menu. It was a spectacular meal, perfectly cooked and seasoned. We paired it with a delicious Sancerre from the wine list and planned on calling it a night until we heard about the strawberry rhubarb cake dessert. Chef’s Birnstill’s burger is also outstanding and one of the best we’ve had in a long time. For a more casual evening, sit at the bar and order the mouth-watering burger, along with one of Mark’s famous margaritas.
As a guest, you’re able to enjoy all the amenities of the club. Families are the focus here, so there’s lots of activities for the kids and a whole game room downstairs with a babysitter available for weekend dinner time!
The Quogue Club also has a yoga studio, extensive work out facility and access to some of the Hampton’s finest sporting clubs. For a tennis game, a partnership with Westhampton Beach, Tennis & Sport gets you on any one of their 28 Har-Tru courts. And golfers will be elated to know the club has an exclusive partnership with Laurel Links Country Club. The private golf club features a beautiful world-class course, recognized as one of the best in New York.
This refreshingly bright and inviting boutique inn offers and an exceptional luxury experience and access to some of The Hamptons best sporting clubs. It will certainly not disappoint!
