You’ve traveled all that way to get to Bora Bora…now what? There are we few things you must do (not listed but imperative: relax, read, take beach naps, etc) and below we rounded up our favorite 5 things from our recent trip!
Swim with sharks
This was a truly epic experience. Our hotel, the Four Seasons Bora Bora, offered a day on the water filled with swimming with sharks and sting rays. These black tip sharks aren’t dangerous (so we’re told) and were so curious about us. At one point nearly 2 dozen of them were swimming around us. It was such an adrenaline rush and something we’ll never forget. See our video here.
Dinner at at La Villa Mahana
What a hidden gem! This restaurant is located in the former home of an artist and had only 6 tables so be sure to reserve in advance. With twinkling lights and mood setting music, the space is magical. The menu is truly up to you- they offer a few different tasting menus with wine pairings but if one of the dishes doesn’t excite you, you’re welcome to swap it for something else. Not in the mood for a tasting menu? Order a la carte! They serve decadent French classics with a Polynesian flare and it was divine.
Shop for Tahitian pearls
We aren’t even big pearl gals and this was still so fun. We knew Tahitian pearls were a thing, but wow – they truly are everywhere. It was really fun to see how these little gemstones change color when placed in the right setting. They may look grey at first glance, but really they shimmer with blues, greens, and pinks. Fun fact: the oysters they’re created in are no good to eat since the water there is so warm!
grab a snorkle
The water in Bora Bora is just so insanely clear, it would be a shame to not see it from below the surface. We did an afternoon snorkel excursion and got to see such beautifully cooked corals and bright, exotic fish. The water is so salty, you are extremely buoyant which was a fun feeling and there’s really nothing better then spending the day in the water with the sun shining down. Plus, it was really cool to see the island from the water!
Lunch at Bloody Mary’s
This is such an iconic place! Everyone we talked to said they went for dinner, but we had chosen to go for lunch and I wouldn’t change a thing. It wasn’t busy when we went the drinks were delicious (get the frozen amaretto sour!), and we devoured our food. There’s a wall outside with the names of hundreds of celebs who’ve walked through the sandy door and you’ll be dining where people like Jane Fonda, Leonardo DiCaprio, Marlon Brando, Snoop Dogg, and Warren Buffet ate before you!
