The Book of Mormon is a religious satire musical and if you’re easily offended, stop reading right about now.

On Broadway since 2011, the show was thought-up by the creators of the television show, South Park. It hilariously walks the line (and often crosses it) of what’s socially acceptable to laugh at and what’s not. The Book of Mormon tells the story of two young Mormon missionaries as they are sent abroad to spread the word of scripture. From the start, they’re already at a disadvantage because only one of them as actually read the Book of Mormon. Hoping they’d be sent to Orlando, Florida, the pair are instead sent to a remote village in Uganda. They are faced for the first time with issues like poverty, AIDS, and war.  Hilarity ensues as they try their darndest to convert the newly encountered locals.

The show is downright funny with plenty of moments where you turn to the person next to you with a did-they-really-just-say-that?! gasp. The music is wonderfully catchy and you’ll be humming it long after you leave the theatre. The Book of Mormon has won 9 Tony Awards, a Grammy, and tickets were sold out for months following the opening. It’s still a tough ticket to grab but well worth any extra effort to snag a seat and spend a few hours cracking up. Nothing on Broadway beats The Book of Mormon.
