Casa Mono & Bar Jamón are a Spanish food lovers paradise. The sister restaurants sit side by side in the Gramercy Park neighborhood…not in some small Spanish village as the first bite of tapas might suggest.
The modestly sized Casa Mono has already earned a coveted Michelin star. The food is served in authentic Spanish tapas-style. The small plates make sampling a large chunk of the menu very possible in one sitting. Casa Mono has a more expansive, full-dining menu versus Bar Jamón and is the more sophisticated of the two. Bar Jamón serves just the small tapas-style plates and is ideal for some casual bites and vino with friends. Spanish wines have made a bold (and affordable) entrance to the world stage in recent years, and these spots both have plenty of great ones to choose from.
Both Casa Mono and Bar Jamon are, once again, successful endeavors by Chef Mario Batali and restauranteur Joe Bastianich. The Batali name is usually synonymous with Italian fare, but his foray into Spanish cuisine is everything you hoped it would be and more.
