Sonoma: A Girls Trip Weekend Guide

There is perhaps no better destination for a getaway with your girlfriends than wine country.  The scenery is beautiful, the food is amazing and there is no shortage of delicious wine to be enjoyed! We recently spent a long weekend in Sonoma, just us ladies, and after months of researching and planning, came up with a wonderful itinerary for a girls getaway.  Cheers to hoping our tastes align with yours and you can use these ideas as an outline for your next girls trip tp Sonoma, California and the surrounding wine country!

Sonoma

Where We ate

Montage Healdsburg: Easily the best brunch in town, you’ll nosh on scrumptious food while sipping a refreshing, light cocktail and taking in some of the prettiest hotel views around.

the girl & the fig: A staple in downtown Sonoma, the country French cuisine will leave you dreaming of it for weeks to come. You MUST order the mussels – the broth is so divine, you could make an entire meal out of it.

Layla at McArthur Place: Dine outside under twinkling lights and enjoy incredible pasta dishes, paired perfectly with a local wine.

Gott’s Roadside: With several locations scattered about wine country, Gott’s is a great spot for a pre-wine tasting lunch. The burgers are phenomenal!

Where we sipped

Some of the best wine in the world is coming from Napa Valley and Sonoma which means there are dozens, maybe even hundreds of wineries. At some, you must be a wine club member to join, others require advance reservations and still others allow you to simply walk in and enjoy. We are wine lovers and are members of several clubs so we made use of those tastings and added in a few others as well. Here’s where we tasted:

Sigh: Right in downtown Sonoma, they serve bubbles and it’s a perfect way to kick off the trip. No reservations required.

Three Sticks: Also located right in downtown Sonoma, the wine here was delicious. We all ordered a few bottles to be shipped home. Reservations required.

Majuscule Winery: We did this tasting at the Mia Carta tasting room in downtown Napa because the winery owners were out of town. The wine was good but not our favorite, however you can taste from several wineries in this tasting room, which had huge windows that opened up to the bustling streets of downtown Napa.

Williams Selyem: One of our favorite wine clubs, the wine is absolutely wonderful and the vineyard is stunning. Must be a club member to enjoy a tasting.

Rivers Marie: A club favorite for pinot’s, we were most excited for this. They are a small producer and make the most divine wine. The setting is beautiful and the tasting room is very intimate. Must be a club member to enjoy a tasting.

Where we stayed

The Lodge at SonomaFor a home base in Sonoma, we really enjoyed this property. There are bikes for guests to use and you can ride into town if you want, otherwise they provide complimentary transportation into downtown Sonoma and some other local areas which is incredibly helpful for dinner and tastings. There is a lovely pool, two restaurants, and a beautiful area under the shade of a huge California Oak to sit around a fire pit, swing on a gorgeous street swing or play corn hole.
