The boutique, tucked along the fabulous stretch of shopping at 50th and France, is stocked to the brim with swimsuits for every shape and size. And because the ladies who work there are so knowledgeable about how to find the best fit for your body, it’s where locals head when they need a new suit. After filling out their extensive style profile, where they ask dozens of questions about what fits you love, which colors you hate, and what you’re looking for in a new swimsuit, you’ll receive a hefty box of goodies at your doorstep.
I had my second child in May and at 5 months postpartum, I’m proud of my body for growing two children, but not exactly feeling super jazzed to don a bikini. I finally had a tropical vacation on the calendar, needed a new swimsuit, and desperately needed some professional help finding the right look. In my style profile, I expressed the desire for a good amount of coverage (because, two babies in two years does a number on ya) and yet something that still felt fun and sexy (because, I’m only 34!).
Before my stylist sent my box, she emailed photos of what she’d chosen. I’m so grateful for this because I was able to nix a few suits based on color or pattern alone and she replaced then with different options before mailing my box. When I opened up my Suitcase, I saw that my stylist nailed it! She sent 10 swimsuits and 4 coverups in a wonderful variety of colors, cuts, and styles. I asked for mostly one pieces but also wanted the option to try on some high waisted bikinis that would still make me feel confident. She sent some lovely colors and fun prints and plenty to choose from. I didn’t like everything- there were 1 or 2 that went directly into the ‘no’ pile. But, I actually liked so many of the options, it was hard to narrow down my favorites.
My body has changed a lot after kids and the styles I used to gravitate towards aren’t necessarily what I’d go for now. What I appreciated most about the Suitcase experience was that my stylist sent styles I never would have chosen for myself, different necklines and options with fun accents like bows or criss cross straps. She listened to my insecurities and chose shapes that would flatter and accentuate the parts I feel good about. Usually, trying on swimsuits, at least for me, isn’t the best experience. Fluorescent lighting isn’t helping anyone, I tend to pick the wrong size which makes me feel frustrated, and I find I’m usually shopping in the winter when my skin is lacking it’s luster. This time, I got to try things on at my house, at my own pace, with no one knocking on the door asking my how it’s going and making me feel nervous to hurry and find a winner.
The Suitcase experience really changed how I’ll approach swimsuit shopping in the future. Even after COVID, when dressing rooms re-open, I’ll still chose to find the perfect swimsuit from the comfort of my own home and will forever trust the ladies at Nani Nalu help me find it!
