Our 6 favorite family friendly

things to do in Chattanooga, TN

If you’re looking for a destination brimming with things do to for the whole family, look no further than Chattanooga, Tennessee.  While our list could go on and on and on, we narrowed it down to our 6 favorite family friendly actives in the Scenic City for your next visit.

The Creative Discovery Museum

The Creative Discovery Museum is truly one of the best children’s museums I’ve been too. There is SO much to do – we spent 3 hours here and could have stayed longer. There are sensory spaces, a Dino excavation site, and an entire floor dedicated to STEM.

rock city

The little red bird houses all over town are advertisement enough– don’t skip this. Growing up, we only ever went at Christmastime to see the lights. Going during the afternoon was such a fun change! My daughter loved seeing the fairy tavern and exploring the mother goose nursery rhyme part!

 the walnut street bridge

Originally built in 1890, the Walnut Street Bridge was the first to connect downtown Chattanooga with the North Shore. About 100 years later, it became a pedestrian bridge and a recent facelift replaced the deteriorating pavement with wooden beams.

 the carousel in Coolidge Park

Filled with figurines that were hand carved and hand painted, this carousel is one of the best kid-friendly things downtown. The ride is quick, yes, but there’s never a line s you can do it over and over again. Plus, it’s right in Coolidge Park where you can enjoy the beautiful scenery and (hopefully) weather, then explore the North Shore.

the incline railroad

It’s called America’s Most Amazing Mile for a reason. Hop aboard the brand new rail car for a spin tingling ride straight yp the side of Lookout Mountain. It’s a quick ride, but not for the faint of heart. However, coming from someone who was scared the whole way up and down, the views from the top are pretty spectacular.

the Tennessee aquarium

Chattanooga has both a fresh and salt water aquarium and both are must-visits when you’re in town, especially if you’re traveling with children. You’ll get to stand in a swirl of butterflies, pet catfish and sting rays, and watch alligators and penguins in their habitats.
