Arriving at the Gasparilla Inn, you’re immediately taken aback by the commanding antebellum façade of the main house. Huge white columns are accented by a dusty yellow paint – the cheeriness just beckons you to come inside.
Here, there is an air of genuine politeness that seeps into everything. The front door is opened for you and you’re greeted like you’re someone special. Immediately, we were checked in and helped to our room, where a glass of ice cold water was waiting, a happy discovery in the Florida heat.
While there are cottages dotting the property, perfect for a family or group of friends traveling together, we stayed in a room within the main house. A room on the second flood, sunlight flooded in and warmed a dreamy bed and sitting area in the bedroom while the bathroom was bright, white and yellow.
The main level of the house is considered a giant living room for guests. Palm print wall paper accents overstuffed couches and folks are curled up with books or enjoying conversation with friends.
On the porch, you’ll find games like ping pong and backgammon. Have a drink in BZ’s bar then challenge your travel companion to a friendly game.
The backyard of the main house is a stunning 18-hole private golf course – reason enough to visit the Gasparilla Inn. Beautiful ocean views greet you at several of the holes and tricky sand traps make the course a challenging but fun one.
For some vitamin Sea and D, head to the beach club, just a short stroll or quick bike ride (bikes are available for guests to rent) from the lobby. Here, you’ll find a lovely pool area, beach front restaurant and soft white sand to sink your toes into.
Stick around for a stunning Gulf Coast sunset then head to The Pink Elephant for dinner. Giving off a familiar old-school supper club vibe, you get the feeling that your fellow diners come here, and to the Inn, often. You must cap off your meal with the key lime pie – it is to die for.
An adorable tiny town lies along the Gasparilla property. Cute boutiques, a locally owned pizza spot and the Inn’s Bakery line the streets and provide enough action for an afternoon stroll.
The Gasparilla Inn experience is that of visiting family; you immediately feel at home and welcomed. Whether it’s the Southern charm or the easy breezy Florida attitude, there is something special about the Inn – something that keeps people – us included- longing to come back.
Compass + Twine was a welcomed guest of the Gasparilla Inn and thanks for them for a lovely stay. As always, all opinions are our own.
