Kennebunkport, Maine

a family friendly haven

Of all the small towns we’ve visited, Kennebunkport, Maine takes the cake. It is just so perfect, in my opinion. The first time we visited, back in 2015, I said to my husband “I will live here one day”.  Until we’re able to make the dream a reality, we’ll just keep visiting every year over Memorial Day Weekend.

When our tradition started, it was just the two of us making the trip. Now, we’ve got two little ones and bringing them to Kennebunkport made me fall deeper in love with this cute, coastal town. There is so much to do for the whole family, from shopping in Dock Square (we love Day Trip Society, Day Trip Jr, Good Earth Pottery, and The Candyman) and chasing the waves at Good Rocks Beach to roasting s’mores around the bonfire at Hidden Pond (where we always stay) and riding bikes along the quite country roads.

Not only are the restaurants in Kennebunkport offering wonderful service and amazing, fresh, local food, they are also incredibly welcoming when it comes to kids. This year, we brought the Penny (age 4) and Noah (age 2) to Mable’s Lobster Claw, Little Barn at the White Barn Inn, Earth at Hidden Pond, and Tides Beach Club. At each place we had a delicious meal (albeit quick because leisurely dining with children isn’t a thing) and didn’t feel like we were a nuisance with the kids joining us. We all treated ourselves to a scrumptious after-dinner cone at Rococo’s Ice Cream, as one does when indulging in the best Kennebunkport has to offer.

At the end of this visit, my daughter Penny said to me “Mom, I really love it here. Can we please come back?” I gave her a big hug and felt like it was a full circle moment, seeing my little girl happy in a place that’s so special to me. Kennebunkport just does that; it grabs hold of you and you can’t help but to keep coming back. Seeing my favorite town as such a family-friendly haven was a dream come true and I can’t wait to continue our annual tradition and watch the kids keep falling in love with Kennebunkport.
