From the sidewalk, the smell of freshly baked bread, sugary pastries, and brightly colored fruit tarts draws you in. Once you’re inside, you might find yourself asking: is this a bakery or a hotel?
Well, it’s both.
Hotel Praktik Bakery isn’t like most hotels. The boutique hotel, set right in Barcelona’s Eixample neighborhood, centers around food and houses the Baluard Bakery on the main level. At Praktik Bakery, the check-in counter is nestled right between the bakery and the cafeteria, surrounded by heavenly smells and smiling bakers, covered in flour. The ‘lobby’ is often times filled with a line of locals and hotel guests alike, sometimes stretching out onto the sidewalk.
But beyond the bustling lobby, the hotel is a quiet reprieve from the busy streets of Barcelona. Take the stairs up one level from the street, and you’ll find a lounge with computers, printers, and books available for hotel guests at any time.
The rooms are cozy and decorated minimally. White linens and plush pillows are especially inviting after an afternoon of exploring Spain’s second largest city.
Upon entering the rooms, you’re greeted with the beautifully bright blue tiles of the bathroom floor. With a private toilet and shower as well as a large sink, the bathroom also includes space for storing your luggage and hanging your clothes.
The simply appointed rooms are the perfect place to recharge for the next day of adventures. Each morning, a delicious spread of breakfast is available for guests in the cafe and we’re sure the amazing smell of fresh baked goodies will lure your out of best much earlier than you expected.
If you’re anything like us, you’ll fill up on the flaky croissants and coffee and pop back into the bakery for a mid-day snack. From mouth-watering food to insanely cozy rooms, the self-proclaimed first hotel-bakery in the world is killing it on both fronts.
Compass + Twine was a welcomed guest of Hotel Praktik Bakery and thanks them for a wonderful stay. All opinions are our own.
