For 8 years, we have spent every Memorial Day Weekend (with the exception of 2020) at Hidden Pond. The barefoot luxury resort, tucked away in the woods in Kennebunkport, Maine, has become a place we feel at home. It’s one of the places we feel happiest and we look forward the trip each year. Even better, what started years ago as a couples weekend, long before we had kids, as morphed into a family vacation and our kids have fallen in love with Hidden Pond.

Hidden Pond has grown much like we have. We added 2 wonderful children to our family and Hidden Pond as slowly added new accommodations.  Now a resort consisting of luxury bungalows, cottages, and treetop homes built in the middle of the Kennebunkport woods, it is a property to need not leave once you’ve arrived. Each bungalow and cottage has a fireplace and an attached, private screened-in porch which is the perfect place to curl up with a book or enjoy the coffee and freshly baked pastries that are delivered to your door each morning.

When it’s time to rinse away whatever the day entailed, do so in your private outdoor shower. (Just don’t forget a towel and be sure to unlock the back door into your cabin!) The kids especially loved this, this year!

The bike rack is usually full and you’re welcome to borrow a set of wheels to explore on and off property. Just next to the bikes you’ll find a garden where you’re invited to can clip flowers and borrow a vase so you can enjoy the blooms back in your cottage. There are activities to kids and adults alike every day. We loved strolling to the artists shed for painting class and seeing what’s being grown in the garden.

At the lodge you’ll find the family friendly pool, surrounded by comfy loungers and plenty of pool toys. Stick around til dusk and they offer s’mores over the campfire.

Across the property you’ll find the adults-only Serenity Pool, butted up (very appropriately) next to the Farm Bar. Do yourself a favor and order a Spring Spritzer and feel your worries melt away. Worries still there? Visit the Tree Spa, hit the gym or go for a hike.

Their famed farm-to-fork restaurant, Earth, now serves breakfast and lunch and we highly recommend you enjoy the lobster roll by the pool if you’re kid-free.  (A food truck stays parked at the family pool and food is served there til 5!) The prix fixe dinner menu at Earth is outstanding and you choose whether you enjoy 3, 4, or 5 courses. Dishes like peekey toe crab cakes, barley risotto with local mushrooms and halibut with potato hash and bernaise all await. One heads up, the kids menu is pricey.

Hidden Pond is one of the most relaxing, quaint places we’ve  been and we cannot wait to go back. Let the countdown begin.
