Some vacations are for completely unplugging, relaxing by the pool, and unwinding at the spa. When you’re in need of that kind of vacay, we suggest you head to Dove Mountain near Tucson, Arizona.
Dove Mountain, a Ritz Carlton property, sits secluded in the middle of the Sonoran Desert. With 253 rooms, the resort and spa feels more like a community than a hotel. The 800-acres is sprawling and beautifully landscaped. With a golf course, spa, 3 pools, and 4 restaurants, once you’ve arrived, there is no reason to leave.
Getting there
- Approximately 30 minutes from the Tucson International Airport and an easy 90-minute drive from Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport.
- Unless you have off-property adventures planned during your stay, we recommend not renting a car and instead using Uber. The price for an Uber to and from Phoenix is generally cheaper than renting a car + gas.
Property highlights
- A gorgeous 27-hole Jack Nikolas Signature Golf Course
- Huge fitness area
- Spa with 12 treatment rooms and a private pool for spa guests only
- Property is dog friendly, always a plus at Compass + Twine
- Ranger led tours and several beautiful hikes nearby
The room
- All rooms have stunning views; ask for a room facing the back of the property, so you can see the pools and mountains
- Rooms have large bathrooms with separate shower and bath tubs, and nice sized closets
- Comfortable beds with Frette linens and nice Asprey bath products
Dining
- Core Kitchen & Wine Bar serves a delicious dinner menu and has a super interesting wine list. Using a Coravin wine pourer, they’re able to offer some really expensive and amazing wines by the glass, that you would otherwise have to fork out lots of cash for the bottle. Core Kitchen & Wine Bar is also where breakfasts served each morning.
- Ignite, the hotel’s lobby lounge, serves small plates, cocktails, and pub-style food. On Fridays and Saturdays, they offer a sushi menu at Ignite, as well.
- Turquesa Latin Grill sits poolside and does a killer plate of nachos (ask for the half order unless there are lots of people sharing) and offers great pool-side cocktails.
- Cayton’s Burger Bistro is down at the Golf Course. A complimentary hotel shuttle will take you there and back. Live music can be enjoyed there on the weekends, with gorgeous views of the golf course and great good.
