If you’re looking for a day hike, surrounded by a beautiful forest, look no further. Spending a day hiking at Jamaica State Park in southern Vermont will leave you feeling reconnected with nature and happily exhausted from the cardio.
The lush green forest spans a stunning 700+ acres and includes a campground, nature center, and plenty of hiking trails. Even in the heat of the summer, the forest canopy blocks the hot, direct sun and cools the hiking trails below. That’s not to say you won’t break a sweat! The trails are long and hilly; in fact, walking towards Hamilton Falls from the center of the park is a steady, uphill climb.
The reward, though, is sweet. The waterfall is beautiful and gathers in fresh, cool pools at the bottom. It’s a perfect place to take a quick dip to cool off or sit for a break and enjoy a picnic. Pets are welcome and since the trails are can be tailored, timing wise, to your specific wants, it’s great for kids too. Grab a map and plan out your walk and be sure to end it at Hamilton Falls!
