The Surf Lodge is everything that you love and hate (then love again) about Montauk these days. It’s a chic and stylish boutique hotel with a laidback, shoes-off surfer vibe. On the weekends in the summer though, it can be a scene. THE scene actually. But, there are few better evenings than hanging out, having cocktails on the Surf Lodge’s back deck with your feet in the sand, listening to a live band jam.
The décor of the hotel, bar and restaurant is bohemian luxury at it’s best. White-washed walls are accented by brilliant turquoises, pinks, and greens. The restaurant serves great local and organic fare, including the daily catch from the town fishermen. On weekend nights in the summer, the hotel hosts an impressive concert line up. During the day, catch a ride over to Ditch Plains, the famed surfing beach with some of the best waves on Long Island.
If the trendy summer weekend crowd isn’t your cup of tea, the best time to visit is just off-season or for a couple of mid-week vacation days. Montauk is one of our favorite getaway towns because it has all the great beaches, shops and restaurants that the Hamptons area has to offer, but it does so with a more chill and relaxed atmosphere. The 3-hour drive from the City is well worth the beachy escape.
