With gorgeous panoramic scenes from every window, the Mirror Lake Inn has aptly named their restaurant, The View. The only restaurant in Lake Placid with the AAA Four Diamond distinction, The View Restaurant has also earned the prestigious Wine Spectator Award of Excellence for the 16th year in a row.
Winning the 2015 Wine List Award from Wine Spectator means that the restaurant has taken great care to curate their wine offerings, making the restaurant a destination in and of itself for wine lovers. The wine list at The View Restaurant is impressive; they have over 400 bottles on the list from all over the world. While their collection is valued at more than $100,000, the bottles are reasonably priced for diners. We especially loved that some bottles are listed as a ‘Staff Favorite” and were told that once a year the restaurant hosts a wine tasting for the staff, to keep them up to date on the wines and allow them to knowledgeably recommend pairings. Finding such a well thought-out wine list in a relaxing and unassuming locale like Lake Placid was unexpected and delightful! The thoughtful wine list is the prefect accompaniment to an amazing dinner menu. Local foie gras with roasted strawberry and rhubarb syrup and crab cakes with celeriac remoulade and pickled fennel are the perfect starters. To follow, we suggest the Alaskan Halibut and the Prime Beef Filet – both were amazing and paired perfectly with a beautiful bottle of Pinot Noir.
