If you’re looking for an luxury lodge experience amid scenic mountain terrain, look no further than the Whiteface Lodge in Lake Placid, New York.
Pulling up to the Whiteface Lodge, the first thing you’ll notice is the grand wooden beams of the porte cochère and the warm glow of light emanating from magnificent antler chandeliers hanging from above. The cozy, cabin-feel continues into the lobby, where rich, buttery wood exudes a familiar warmth. From the stately entrance to the tiny details throughout the property, you’ll feel transported to the ‘north woods’ at every turn.
Spacious suites create a home-away-from-home feeling, where you can truly unwind after a day exploring the outdoors. Our suite had a kitchen, king-sized bedroom, spacious living area and outdoor patio that looked out onto a winter wonderland. Heated floors in the bathroom, lush faux-fur throws, and a private fire place were just a few of the decadent in-room amenities.
Turn down was probably our favorite time of day. After a long day of activities, we’d return to a freshly cleaned room, a warm, crackling fire and freshly baked chocolate cookies set out on the table for us to enjoy.
Each morning, breakfast at the lodge is served in the grand hall of their restaurant, Kanu. Bold coffee, fresh fruit and eggs, and warm, gooey cinnamon rolls provided the perfect sustenance for a day spent in the great outdoors.
For lunch, snag a window table or sink into one of the leather chairs in their lounge area and feast on comforting American favorites, like pizza and burgers.
Dinner at Kanu is a real treat, though. Sourcing the best ingredients from local upstate farms, the menu is top-notch but the attire is refreshingly lodge-casual. Choose from an array of delectable and hearty entrees, like duck with cranberry sauce or filet mignon dusted in a mushroom crust set atop a creamy bed of mashed potatoes. But don’t forget to save room for dessert AND the chocolate chip cookies back in your room!
If you’re looking to truly relax, head downstairs to the lodge’s acclaimed spa, where any number of massage and facial treatments are available. One of the nicest spas upstate, get there early so you can spend ample time in the sauna and eucalyptus steam room. Afterwards, make your way outside and take a dip in their hot tub or heated indoor-outdoor pool, and feel the chill of winter kiss your forehead when you come up for air.
Centrally located for skiing, hiking, and enjoying local restaurants, Whiteface Lodge is the ideal place to stay the next time you’re visiting the scenic Adirondacks.
