Nancy Whiskey is one of the best dive-y, drink-your-sorrows-away Irish pubs in the country. There are plenty of prettier, more exciting places in New York City, like trendy clubs with beautiful people and rooftops with gorgeous views. Nancy Whiskey is not one of those places. It is, however, considered “my place” to a lot of people and has been since 1967. Most often, you’ll find the same regulars posted up at the narrow, ramshackle bar at any given day or time during the week.
Shuffleboard is another big draw to the pub, which not a lot of places have these days. Ultimately though, it’s simply the establishment’s character that has made it famous… and infamous. The old wooden floors are uneven and bartender has been drunk since it opened (again, that’s 1967). But that’s okay, because once you post up and swap harrowing tales of your daily tribulations with fellow patrons, you’ll be drunk too.
Nancy Whiskey is a grimey, neighborhood dive in the truest form of the phrase, and that’s why you’ll love her.
