Tucked away in the woods of Hunter, New York lies an idyllic lake house retreat. Lake Haus is a beautifully designed, appointed and decorated alpine chalet in the heart of the Catskills, perfect for an Upstate weekend getaway with friends or family.
The house sits on a scenic 15 acres with its own private lake. In the morning, the sunrise sparkles on the water and lights up Hunter Mountain in the distance. Sitting on the porch soaking it all in, the only sound you’ll hear is the wind rustling the leaves in the trees all around. In the warmer months, take a swim in the lake or glide across the water using the property’s paddle-boards. Fishing poles are also provided if you want to try your hand at reeling in some catch. If you’re simply looking to unwind, enjoying a cup of coffee or a glass of vino on the floating dock. Two Adirondack chair sit their beckoning you to sink in and enjoy the scenery.
Lake Haus has one of the most prime properties in all of the Catskills, especially come winter. Hunter Mountain is a renowned New York ski destination, and one of the closest to New York City. It just so happen, Lake Haus is only 3-minutes away!
The owners of Lake Haus have taken every measure to make sure their guests are comfortable and feel at home. Each of the 4 bedrooms are beautifully appointed with fine linens and lovely alpine decor. Chic throws lie atop plush bedding in the rooms, and luxe L’Occitane products fill the toiletries baskets in the bathrooms. For the ultimate pampering experience, you’ll even find a sauna in the master bathroom.
Out in the common spaces, the property’s gourmet kitchen is wonderfully spacious, and a stunning farmhouse-style table provides the ideal setting for a group dinner or event. Peek into the pantry and you’ll find everything you need, including s’mores supplies! Thoughtful details like this greet you in every room. Open the cabinets by the fireplace in the living room to find stacks of games lining the shelves, encouraging you to unplug and have some old-school fun.
After some games, grab those s’more ingredients and head out to the 3-seasons porch. The fire-pit area is just outside the screen-in porch, so you can roast your marshmallows and bring them back into the cozy space. Thick grey blankets sit in the porch baskets by the love-seat to keep you warm on a crisp fall day.
In addition to the private lake, the property also boasts a tennis court. Rackets and balls are provided, and you can even arrange a private lessen if you want!
One of the loveliest things we were able to enjoy during our visit was a private morning yoga sessions on the patio. The owners of Lake Haus will set it all up for you – with Jeanne Licurse from Pure Mountain Yoga. We had the most amazing, revitalizing morning session with Jeanne on the patio, watching the sun climb above the mountain in the distance and the dew burn of the sprawling Lake Haus lawn. Few things are more rejuvenating than finding your zen while breathing the fresh mountain air and taking in the gorgeous views.
At Lake Haus, the owners have truly thought of everything. You’re certain to have a wonderful, special experience from start to finish. Our recent fall stay was undoubtedly one of our favorite Catskills experiences, and with year-round activities and amenities, we’re sure to be back again!
