We’re in love with the deliciously intimate West Village restaurant, Joseph Leonard – and have been for a while now. For any meal of the day, Gabriel Stulman’s neighborhood spot constantly delivers a changing array of seasonal American fare. Named after his two grandfathers – Joseph and Leonard – Stulman’s portfolio of West Village restaurants is impressive, but this is one of his best. Nestled into a small corner location, Joseph Leonard’s great bar-top dining and cozy bistro buzz make it one of our favorite date-night spots in the city. They don’t take reservations, but if you head there before the 7pm crowd you should be good to go – or worst case, you have to wait with a glass of vino in your hand (nooo, that’s the worst!!). We suggest starting with some fresh oysters and one of their always phenomenal rillettes, tartares or paté appetizers. Be sure and cap off the evening with their salted caramel pudding dessert, while you soak up the cool pictures on the walls (all of the management and staff’s own grandfathers).
Brunch is another stellar time to visit. It’s so good that it made it’s way onto our list of top brunches in NYC.
For such a small space, Joseph Leonard is busting with tasty fare and a whole lot of character.
