The self-proclaimed “Sturgeon King” has been a staple for New Yorkers since opening in 1908. A native New Yorker can’t think of bagels and lox without immediately thinking of Barney Greengrass. For over 100 years it’s where locals have gone to get their bagel and smoked fish fix on the Upper West Side. They’ve got caviar, herring, and a long list of smoked and cured fish. The space is small, cozy, and if you go a few times in one weekend, you’ll likely see some of the same people. If food from the sea ain’t your thing, they’ve also got a healthy list of meats, spreads, and sandwiches that are sure to convince even die-hard Downtowners to venture Uptown more often. Not much has changed here over the last 100 years except now you’re able to order online! And we’re pretty sure if you were to have a box of bagels and a couple slices of lox delivered to your home, that would be enough to convince you to book the next flight to NYC to get that same meal fresh from the source.
