One of the most iconic landmarks in the world resides right in the middle of the Hudson River and has for over 100 years. The colossal Statue of Liberty, as we all learned but probably forgot from grade school, was a gift of friendship from France. It was dedicated on October 28, 1886 and in 1924 was designated as a National Monument. The statue and pedestal stand over than 300 ft tall, while Lady Liberty herself is just over 100 feet high. You can see her standing proud from the west side of Manhattan, Staten Island, and Jersey City.  For a closer vantage point, take a cruise to get up close to the copper lady. (Yes, she is copper… now green because of oxidation… and science.) The ferry trips allow you to take a brief tour of the island or even climb inside the statue – all the way up to her crown. You won’t be the only ones snapping pics of Lady Libs; approximately 4 million people visit Liberty Island and neighboring Ellis Island each year. That’s one popular babe.
